On Sunday Mornings

Greeters

This team is responsible for greeting everyone as they come to worship on Sundays, and for helping guests feel welcome. This team also will help families find their place in small groups on Sundays.

Ushers

This team assists families in finding seats in worship, and in the collection of the offering. 

Hospitality Desks

Volunteers sign up to work behind the hospitality desks Sunday Mornings before and after worship services answering questions for visitors. 

Altar Guild

The altar guild operates as a part of the worship committee. Volunteers are responsible for the physical preparation of the sacraments of communion and baptism. Those who serve in this ministry also set up the environment for Sunday Worship, weddings, etc.

Coffee Bar Ministry 

This team is responsible for the set up and clean up of the Sunday morning Coffee bar.  Volunteers work in teams of 2 or more and sign up on a rotation.  This ministry helps facilitate fellowship before and after the service and brings about a sense of community.  

Audio Visual Team

This team assists in the preparation and presentation of slides for worship, video productions, graphic development, and sound and light production. 

Production Team

This team is responsible for the live Sunday morning television broadcasts of our 9:00 Crossroads Worship Service and our 11:00 Traditional Worship Service and/or being involved in the production of church videos for advertising or in house use.

Choir

The all-volunteer Chancel Choir provides worship leadership through music for the 11:00 AM Sunday traditional worship service. In addition, this choir prepares a special musical presentation for the Christmas season, and participates in various other special worship services throughout the year. Rehearsal is Wednesday evenings at 6:45p.m.

Handbell Choirs

The handbell ministry provides a way to express musically and spiritually our faith in God, as we literally lift our instrument to Him. There are currently 2 handbell choirs both under the direction of Shirley Poynter. The handbell choirs play throughout the year in the 11:00 traditional worship service. Their melodic sound is a beautiful way to begin worship. 

Praise Band

Crossroads Praise Band provides "praise" music leadership for our Sunday morning Praise Service which takes place in the Contemporary Worship Center at 9:00 AM.    Music format is informal, with overhead projectors providing the words for all the songs. The band is comprised of volunteer musicians and vocalists, and the composition of the band is flexible. Rehearsal is Mondays at 6:30 p.m.  

Sunday School Teachers

The spiritual education of our children is a priority with us at First Church. We rely generous volunteers to lead Sunday school lessons from the curriculum that the church supplies which is chosen by our dedicated Children's Dept. It is a commitment, not just of time on Sunday morning, but also in preparation. But most age group have volunteers that rotate so that no one has to commit to every Sunday. 

During The Week

Children's Ministry

This includes BibleZone Teachers as well as snack and recreation volunteers for the Wednesday evening Children's activities. 

Bus Ministry

A group of drivers who serve on a rotation to pick up youth and children from area schools for Wednesday evening programming.

Youth Ministry

What a legacy you, as a Youth volunteer, will have as the years go by and the kids you've loved grow into adults. The youth ministry you do will touch hundreds of lives and families. Youth volunteers help to expose our youth to all of the fundamentals of Christianity in a way that energizes them and gets them excited about being a Christian. 

In Our Church & In Our Community

Worship Team

The Worship Committee coordinates the many groups whose dedicated service enhances the worship experience at First UMC. This committee is responsible for ushers, greeters, placing flowers in the sanctuary, preparing Communion elements, and other similar details and thus provides many opportunities for service.  The committee is staffed entirely by church volunteers. 

Friendship Team

This team provides a variety of social gatherings throughout the year that bind us together as a family in Christian fellowship.  

Care Bearers

These caring volunteers make visits to members of our congregation who are ill or home bound giving them fellowship and prayer. 

Missions Team

This includes community groups, Opportunities for ministry include facilitating study, care group ministry, outreachministry, and facilitating fellowships. 

Backpack Program

This team of volunteers helps put together weekend meals that are provided to children in need. 

Prayer Shawl Ministry

This group knits and crochets shawls and recieving blankets for those in need of prayer in our church and in our community. 

Disaster Relief Team

This team of volunteers is on call to help in case of disaster in our community.  Volunteers with a variety of skills serve on this team.  From manning a chainsaw to simply passing out toothbrushes, there is a place for anyone to serve on this team.
