Rev. Keith DodsonPeaches and Stink Bugs! I do love summer peaches! I can’t think of anything much better than having them cut up with a little bit of condensed milk drizzled over the top of them. YUM! But I can tell you I don’t really care for picking peaches. It is a hot and nasty job, and on top of that you have to deal with the bugs that love peaches too. It is next to impossible to keep the bugs away from the peaches (or most other produce). The picture I included was one that I took when Lori, the kids and I went on a peach picking expedition. We battled the heat and what seemed like a biblical plague of japanese beetles, wasp and stink bugs. I was taking pictures of our bounty and had put my camera on the bushel of peaches. I thought what beautiful picture this will make hanging in our kitchen. The quintessential harvest of peaches resting in a metal tub that read “orchard” on the side. It was picture perfect, except I had an intruder. The little bug on the rim of the tub was a perfect reminder of what the day was like. We had one idea, and nature presented another. So, I took the picture and felt that this best represented our experience.Back in January we had a pretty clear idea about how this year would look. We made plans big and small on how 2020 would be. Little did we know that the “bugs” were going to invade our life. Little did we know that not only was it going to be an invasion, it would be a full scale infestation of all of our plans and ideas. So what do we do? Do we just give up when it comes to the plans that we had? No. We do not. We instead backup, rethink, and reimagine new ways to do ministry and produce fruit for the kingdom. Just like gardners (and farmers) are finding new ways to grow their crops without causing harm to the planet, we too are doing the same in church. We are looking for ways that we can keep everyone safe and still produce fruit for the kingdom of God. So be encouraged in this time. Also know that in situations like this the church can become stronger as we seek bold new ways to do new ministry and bold new ways to improve ministries that we have. Bro. Keith “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” –John 16:33 |

Children's Ministry
Children’s Corner Well, here we are writing the August Children’s Corner and things are still so uncertain. I would love to tell you that we are starting the Children’s Program as we always do and picking up from school, but at this time, I just can’t do that, sadly! I will let you know as soon as I know what this fall semester looks like. What I do now, is that I will be delivering VBS materials for your kiddo(s) to do at home sometime next week! We are in the process of making videos complete with the music, the time with Moses and even some of the marketplace shops! I know that it won’t be the same, but for now it’s the best that we can do! Mrs. Laura will put the videos on the church website so that you can tune in anytime and do Days 1-5 as you can! I will e-mail you more details as that becomes available! Michelle and I will also be hosting a “Back to School in the Backyard” on Wednesday August 19th in the early evening. We will still have to be socially distant and wear a mask, but we can see each other, eat a bite and play some games! We will do what will be allowed, but remaining safe at all times! I continue to miss all of you and hope that it won’t be long before we are together again! Blessings, Kellye |
Youth Ministries
Hello Church Family, As we enter another month of social distancing, I have found some blessings through all of this. I have been blessed by my church family, listening to the praise God each Sunday, even through the masks. I have been blessed by watching your Facebook and Instagram feeds, seeing your families social distance together. And I was so blessed by the beautiful commencement ceremony that our High School put on for our seniors and families. Some good news! Our drive in movies have been super successful! I have enjoyed seeing our families come together and watching movies in our parking lot. I am also super excited to be partnering with Kellye Cannon and the Children’s ministry for Back to School in the Backyard. August 19th 5:30 PM. Come drive behind the church with your students and either Kellye, Keith, or Myself will greet you and bless the backpacks or teacher bag, and get your goodies. Then, if you choose, pull up in a spot and join us for some social distancing fun. We will have dinner for you and some games for the kids to play. Blessing will be happening from 5:30-6:15 that night! We hope to see you all there! I know this is a hard time, and we are not even halfway through it, but I have full confidence in our church family, that we will come out stronger, loving one another, and together in our mission for Christ. I am working on plans for a hybrid youth ministry this fall, so keep your eyes open to see what we shall be doing. If you are not receiving email or texts from me, please contact me at manderson@fumcmh.org. I will be updating all of us as soon as possible! Keep your eyes and ears opened for some new activities to do!
Michelle

Live Stream & Cable TelevisionSunday morning streams of Crossroads & Traditional Worship We want to let you know that we have been working hard to improve the quality of the Sunday morning streams. Do to some of the changes and updates, we have hit a few bumps in the road. We know this can be an inconvenience to those watching from home. We know that you still need church even if it's not in-person. We hope that you will bear with us through this time of change. Due to the increased use of technology, we want to maker sure we do things to the best of our abilities. Part of that involves you. We need more volunteers to learn and run things like sound, computer, and video production. It can sound complicated but most of these things are simple to learn. If you are interested in volunteering in this capacity, please call the church office and speak to Laura Law or email her at llaw@fumcmh.org |
