Pastor Daniel Thueson
What does the church mean to you? If you’re reading this, I imagine the church has played or is playing a significant role in your life. Yet, it may mean different things for different people. I propose we have two primary ways we can think about the church. How we imagine the church will often determine how we live into our faith. For our first way of imagining the church we have the little “c” church. This is the global church, the universal church, or as we say in our creeds, the holy catholic church. While we love our Roman Catholic sisters and brothers, it is not solely them we are referring to on Sunday mornings. In this instance, we are referring to all Christians as the church. Or, as the new Testament commonly describes, you and I and all of us are included in the body of Christ as the church. For our second way of imagining the church we have the big “C” church. This is our church. It is our United Methodist Church. It is our First United Methodist Church of Mountain Home. It is the particular extension of the body of Christ we call our home church. It’s the avenue in which we define our flavor of the faith. It’s the place we gather with our literal and figurative family to worship God. It’s the big “C” church that often leads us to all the warm and fuzzy feelings when we sing our favorite hymn or lift our hands in adoration as we repeat our favorite worship verse. It’s this significant formation where we see our friends, hold our potlucks, and launch our missions to change the world. Often, it’s this embodied iteration that serves as the epicenter for our evangelism. That is the how and where we share the good news of Jesus to bring in more people to be a part of our Church and, more importantly, the church. I am thankful for the encouraging work I see taking place in our Church for the church. After all, I’ve already learned our Church is an assimilation of more than cradle Methodists. We have people who were raised in or came to Christ through Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Baptist, Assembly of God, Pentecostal, non-denominational, and more! Yet, you all have made room for one another across this big, beautiful, bridge of worship. This is the body of Christ! May we continue to rise above the things that divide the various big “C’s” as we endeavor to grow the little “c.” May God’s continuous work through us enable us to share the good news of God’s presence, love, and grace. May we embrace every opportunity to make life better and make you better at life through Jesus Christ. Grace and peace, Pastor Daniel For more infomation visit:

Back to Church SundaySeptember 19th National Back to Church Sunday started as a call to action and invitation – action for the church, invitation for the world. A single-day event focused on extending the invitation of love, peace and hope to our friends and neighbors. A single day to reclaim the true nature of Church – exactly as Christ commanded. Incredibly, since then, more than 4-million Christ-followers have participated through over 40,000 churches…and the movement continues to grow. We are so excited to join in this endevor! This year, the theme for National Back to Church Sunday is "Hope is Here". Now, more than ever, people need Jesus and a caring community where they can belong, grow and flourish. This September 19, we want you to be a part of introducing this community to our church family and to Jesus by inviting them to church, so that they can experience His hope as well as reconnect with others! If you haven’t been joining us for worship in-person, online on television or radio, we encourage you to use this opportunity to get back to church. And even if you have been attending regularly, we encourage you to invite someone who might not know Jesus the way you do. It’s time to love again, serve again, and HOPE again. Who will our church reach this fall? “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace.” |

Sunday Morning Greeters NeededSign-up online As a church, radical hospitality is important to us because this is what makes people feel comfortable and welcome. As a greeter, your smile is the first thing our members and guests see when they come to worship on Sunday. This is why having a greeter at each entrance is so important. This is not an usher position. Ushers do greet folks as they enter the worship space but a greeter welcomes them at the door to the building and makes sure they sign in. This is just one more chance to make both members and guests welcome. We currently have positions available at the East and West entrance of the Narthex and the Office door from 8:45 - 9:15am and 10:45 - 11:15am. If you are interested in becoming a part of our Greeter Ministry, it’s easy to do. Simply follow the steps below.
1. Sign up using our calendar by clicking the button below. Find the dates, times and door and sign up!
2. Come 15 minutes prior to the time you are scheduled
3. Warmly welcome members & guests
4. Remind members & guest to sign in for contract tracing
5. Welcome first time guests with a mug
Please note: You will NOT need to register an account or keep a password and signing up does not share your email address with anyone. If you need more information, oe would like us to know that you have signed up to join this ministry, contact Kathy Davis at the church office.
